Meet the Peafowl!

Petey found her way to Wildwood after one of our board member's moms noticed a lone peahen wandering her neighborhood. She quickly became a local favorite, admired by neighbors and known for boldly chasing off crows. Wanting to ensure she had a safe and permanent home, she was welcomed to Wildwood, where she could finally live alongside other peafowl. Since peafowl naturally thrive in small groups, Petey now has the girl gang she was missing all along. After settling in, she quickly found her confidence and has happily taken on the role of leader. Never shy about making her presence known, Petey can often be heard honking across the sanctuary as she proudly keeps an eye on her flock.

Eliza came to Wildwood after two women in Portland noticed her visiting their backyard every evening for months. She had been living on her own, and over time, they patiently earned her trust before helping her find the safe, permanent home she deserved. Of our three peahens, Eliza is the most timid and cautious, but she has slowly been settling into life with her new flock. She has a playful, mischievous side, too. You can often find her flying up onto the barn roof and turning a volunteer's day into a game of hide-and-seek. While she likes to keep people guessing, Eliza can rarely resist the promise of a good treat. With patience, friendship, and plenty of snacks, she's learning that sanctuary life is a place where she truly belongs.

Freddie was born right here at Wildwood as a happy surprise to his parents, Thelma and Dom, who have since passed. Growing up at the sanctuary has made Freddie a confident and charismatic peacock who knows just how handsome he is. Never one to pass up a photo opportunity, Freddie loves showing off his stunning feathers and does his best to impress the peahens with his elaborate displays—though they often seem less impressed than he hopes! When he's not courting the ladies, Freddie can usually be found following volunteers around in search of his favorite snack: blueberries. Over the years, he's become much more comfortable with people, and his curious, outgoing personality has made him a favorite among visitors and volunteers alike.

Eunice came to Wildwood after a family reached out about a lone peahen who had been visiting their home for weeks. She would call out for other peafowl but never received an answer, and with predators in the area, they wanted to find her a safe place to belong. They named her Eunice because of her regal appearance, complete with her elegant neck feathers and beautiful crown. Today, she has found exactly what she was searching for—a flock of her own with Petey and Eliza. Of the three girls, Eunice is the boldest and most curious. She's always willing to venture a little closer for treats and has a knack for sneaking into places she probably shouldn't.
