We're proud to partner with other animal advocacy groups like We Animals Media. Their photographers visited Wildwood to capture some happy endings, which you can see at 1:34 and 3:10. (Warning: this video includes some disturbing footage.)
On June 23, 2023, a semi truck carrying thousands of chickens overturned on I-5. Dozens, if not hundreds of birds were killed and maimed. A few lucky ones were thrown from the wreckage and survived. One such hen found her way to Wildwood. Lark was treated for minor injuries and has now joined our flock of pampered poultry. We only wish we could have saved them all.
After a PETA investigation in early 2026 shut down Grand Barr Goat Dairy for animal abuse and neglect, Willow was rescued and gave birth to her triplets in the safety of sanctuary. All triplets were born female, meaning her daughters would have been thrown into the abusive cycle Willow was in. Thankfully, they will forever live peacefully on our pastures.
Shauna Sherick, our founder and president, discusses her sanctuary journey, challenges, and the importance of self-care and boundaries, while continuing to be a voice for the animals.
Our founder, Shauna Sherick, is also a Certified Veterinary Technician. Recently, she was a guest on The Vet Tech Cafe and talked about what it's like to be a vet tech and run a sanctuary.
